Forgery

Forgery just doesn't seem to be needed, in my opinion.

Forgery can be broken down into two parts or tasks.
1. to actually construct/make the forgery itself, either as an exact copy to fool someone, or as piece that has been modified to suit some purpose ( changed manifest or a fake 'just discovered' artwork in the style of a famous artist. )
This task would require artistry ( for print, sculpture, etc. ), mechanic ( for making fake rolex watches, etc. ) or even another skill related to actually creating something. The skill of 'forgery' means nothing in the construction of a forged object when approached in this fashion.
2. passing the forgery off as authentic which should be role-played or played as an interpersonal, uncertain task. It is my opinion that there are other skills more appropriate for this than a nebulous 'forgery' skill.
'Forgery' appears to be clumping several disciplines into a single skill as opposed to separating the individual skills used out.

Its my position that forgery as a skill is not necessary. Perhaps mongtrav designers felt the same.

I wonder if bribery can be played out as a sales transaction of sorts; pay money, favors, etc. in return for some goods or service ( even if that service is to just look the other way ). Another interpersonal task, to be sure. ( uncertain, fateful, hazardous )

Since they did not include any explicit methodology to allow PCs to forge documents, I think it's far more likely that they overlooked Forgery and will include it in the Errata.

Under Classic and Mega, I never let forgery stand alone. It was always used with the relevant skill.

Aramis,

Which is how I handled it with my players. When used by NPCs, I used it alone.

I'll point out that, although you merged Forgery with other skills appropriate to the particular job; i.e. computer for timestamps, art for paintings, etc., Forgery was still part of the equation.

I've posted a few times now that, for instance, Computer skill doesn't necessarily default to spoofing time stamps and that Admin doesn't necessarily default to gaffing documents. There are other issues/concerns involved and those issues/concerns are best modeled by including Forgery.

Have fun,
Bill

For those that want an independent Forgery skill, how about Trade:Forgery? There's even a blank space on the character sheet for it.

I got some ideas.

Well, here's the deal, I have at one time, had to feel very blessed that really cool ADA looked down upon me and pronounce me a 'decent kid, just a bit messed up', which is nice because at 17 in WI they could have given me 10000 USD fine an 10 years in the Big House. And I started so innocently....teacher notes, a field trip permission slip to go and see 'Close Encounters' and then a check as my parents were f**kchop @sswipes...or so I thought when I did it..

Now I work in Security and Create Admin and Charts and Forms for Games and Jobs.

So, on the whole Cosmic, yes, Deception is a great skill for any grift and crime in general since most of it is based on Deception.

"This check is good, I work for my dad and he pays me..."

"These aren't the Droids you are looking for.." Yes, Mind Controlling Imperial Troops in the Performance of their Duties in a Crime. :p

"Yep, they just discovered it in some old lady's stuff in an attic on Regina..."

"We met this Archaeologist and he said he needed some quick cash..."

"So, that was Cr 25.24, great here's a CrImp 50, say could you give me two tens and a five...."

See they all start with Deception...and yes a when you are into Forgery and Play an IO well, you do look in to these things and when you have a certain interest in the Field, you keep up, like the cash (US Notes) thing, it's true and for those interested the front and back are a deeper and on the back much darker, yet more vivid green, they say "May be exchanged at US Treasury for Legal Tender" or some such...been awhile since I had a 1953 Note. And since they are made of Denim they have a non-traditional paper feel. For the Prive who forged Travel Docs with Cut and Paste and then Passed them...so did your Squad Leader have anything to say when you made it back from Leave? Basically, if you are a Forger Specialist then you do study a whole lot of stuff, kinda like being a gamer....

Anyway, that's about it from the Great and All Knowing PITA, Magnus.

Im assuming you meant private....which i was higher rank then that...not that it matters.

I covered up my deception by calling the day I was supposed to be back from leave and told them my plane was delayed. Now the ironic think is that it would have worked...but as fate would have it, the actualy plane I took home WAS delayed, so comming back from leave two days late did kinda piss my 1st Sgt off. :D

Oops.

Well, sorry, Apparition, it sure seemed like something a private would do.

Heehee, made Top mad. :D Well, you know what they say:

Payback is a b!tch!

Only because it was in the skill list, not becuase I felt the skill was needful. A contrivance of the game system.

I'm guessing a Forgery skill might appear in the forthcoming Scoundrels Book, like Interrogation has appeared in Mercenary.

If so it will I'm guessing it will be on the table of a few specialists and with some guidelines on how regular careers might access it (as in what skill to substitute it for, as in Deception or Forgery, or some such).

But it is a far too specialist skill to appear on the general list.

If you really need Forgery as "its own skill" for MGT, create one as Open Content. Then, anyone who wants it can use it.

I simply allowed a Forgery specialization under Art, for one character who wanted one. Works fine, no problem.
