Imperial Marine Motto?

My guess is that you wanted to avoid looking through 27000 pages of printed material. It's a fairly good bet that if the motto of the Imperial Marines had been mentioned somewhere in canon, someone in these forums would have been able to track it down. Not 100% sure, mind you, but a good bet.

Hans

Of course that only applies if it is presented as "The Marine Motto!", if it appeared as background in a picture or on the side of a vehicle it might be missed. For instance, what is the name of the species of alien on the cover of Megatraveller Journal 1? It's planet of origin? Where is this information found?

This species of alien did not make any list of aliens that I was aware of, yet it has a name and home planet.

Charlie Mike..over

Code:
It Means Continue Mission.
Usually said after an interruption or hiccup in whatever you're doing.
This phrase is derived using the phonetic alphabet (Military Alphabet).
Instead of saying Continue Mission,
Charlie Mike is said instead so everyone over the Commo can
understand and know what you mean.

Ensis Incurso Tenebrae- (Swords [to strike] Against Darkness) IMTU of course and don't count on my latin being so good.

The Marines could shorten it to "eight"! As their battlecry and use an eightball motif in a colloquial manner. Such as being in the service could be "behind the eightball". I could even make up a good logo with that as a saying crossed cutlasses against an Imperial Sun with those words underneath.

Gunny: "GET STRAIGHT!"

Troopers stand to attention: "EIGHT!"

People who design official mottos tend to have very little sense of humor.

Depends on the service and national character.

I think the motto "Everywhere" for the Royal Australian Artillery is chuckleworthy.
Probably so did the people choosing it.

I was browsing through back issues of Traveller Digest when I came upon this in Issue 14, page 43, Article: The Uniforms of the Terran Occupation Force. by Dave Nilsen

In the dialogue box on the bottom of the page:
"....When Cleon and his nobles were founding the Third Imperium, they chose to base their Imperial military on Solomani rather than Vilani antecedents, thereby utilizing this public perception....

....The emperor was concerned more with the Solomani issues left him by his mother than by the Zhodani hordes that martyred the 910th. Thus Styryx, a Marine himself while a prince, arranged to eliminate the Solomani references from the uniforms of his finest shock troops...."

Now it's just an assumption, based on these paragraph's, but my guess would be that the Imperial Marine Motto no longer has Terran Origin's.

Pick something suitably Vilani.

Vilanie:

"By the regulations"

"Because our great-grandfather did it the same way"

"For the caste"

Assuming a motto serves a purpose at all. After all the Marine caste knows it's proper place in society and it's duties.

Looking over a list of clan mottoes, I think the best potential Far Future war slogan I found was Clan Chisholm's:

"feros ferio", aka

"I am fierce with the fierce"

The Latin version does have a certain swing to it; although you could make a case for the English one as well, since by the 55th Century 'Modern' English should be at least as exotic and dead a language as Latin is to us today.

There are a couple of other good ones in there, too; although I gotta say that Clan Livingston's motto ("If I Can") probably wouldn't look good on Imperial Battledress.

And of course, as an Anderson, I am a fan of "stand sure".
