Looking for Jump 6

Alright, I have been playing with book 2 and I have been having trouble coming up with a good smallish jump 6 fast courier. Anybody have designs from HG, T20, TNE that they might be willing to post? Ideally it would be under 800 tons with a few tons (3-5) of cargo capacity.

It's 400tons, J6 and 2 tons of cargo (in Supp 9). Don't recall how it worked out or the specifics of the T20 version above. I know I downloaded it and printed it out so I couldn't have been too disappointed in it ;)

Of course, now there's the idea in my head of building a Book 2 version just to see if it can be done
I'll share it here in a bit...
 
OK, if you want Book 2 it can be done but 800 tons looks like the smallest practical size.

Quick outline:

800ton streamlined hull. Jump drive X (J6) Maneuver drive M (3G) and Power plant X. Fuel 540tons. Computer model/6. Crew: Pilot, Navigator, Engineers x6, Medic. Staterooms x5 (double occupancy except Commander). Cargo 8tons.

Nice thing about the cargo size, you can stipulate max hardpoints in the design and use the cargo rating to upgrade to weapons, though you'll have to put the Gunners in hot-bunk mode with the regular crew. And it may mean your cargo space is not one contiguous space but 8 small distributed spaces.
 
That is what I came up with also. Why does book 2 list J6 for a 200, 400 and 600 ton hulls?!

I kept trying to make it work but it will not. I don’t use HG but will it work?
 
I wondered about that myself some a while back (get ready for the DOH! ;) ), then realised it must be just to allow M6 in those hulls and that J6 was never intended to work for them. The table is just for the drive letter, it doesn't mean you can fit all of them in the hull. I think I even made a M6 100ton Speed Boat once


It might be possible to make a small J6 Boat using 1st. ed. rules, no power plant needed for the jump drive in that, like the original X-Boat.

J6 will work in HG in as small as 400tons, unless that Courier is messed up too ;) Now I've GOT to go check it :D

I have a vague recollection of trying smaller hulls and don't think it's possible without drop tanks. Once you allow that it's easy ;)

Think of it as a HG+ design ;)

I'll go run the original HG Courier and let you know how close to the T20 one it is. Probably just the overall available energy points, which means nothing in CT and only a little more in HG
 
Do you want an x-boat design with no maneuver drive, or do you need it to maneuver?

A 200t jump 6 x-boat is possible using LBB2 1st edition ;)

She's got half the power, is very myopic, but she's got her legs!

By trimming the computer down DRASTICALLY, to just J6 support, she's truly underwhelming. The single occupancy SSR's are not happy, and she needs to run under military discipline, but she WILL get there.

This is a quick design using High Guard (Generated by the HGS software) it's unarmed but will get you 5 tons cargo in a 200 ton hull with jump 6. If you feel the need for a weapon you can do it but it'll eat up 3 tons (1 for the turret 2 for the half stateroom for the gunner) or you could install two turrets for 2 tons and make the medic and engineer double up as gunners but HGS doesn't allow for that.)

As usuall the Architechs fees should be deposted to the Spinward Marches Entertainment Group - Heavy Equipmeant Aquisitions Division account on Regina.

Thanks to Far-Trader and Aramis but I think the 200 ton design is what I need.

For game purposes I think I will call it an IISS Fast Dispatch Courier. :D

Its purpose is to get the PCs to a place with extreme haste. The ship itself will fall victim to a Lukuraku attack. I think I will add one triple turret and fudge the tonnage just a bit . . .

I like to use a robot brain to take the place of a gunner ;)
 
I think I might add two four ton drop boosters.

Used as a set they provide 3G acceleration for fast boosts out to jump points.

Four tons each (2 tons drive, 2 tons fuel).
20 hours burn time and reusable.
MCr 12.2 for the set.

The ship is supposed to provide a getaway so I need a way of getting them off world fast! I figure if they use the ship’s engine as well they can pull 4G out to the jump point and drop the boosters to jump.
 
IN MT, one can hit J6 in 100 Td.

JDrive 6 is 7%
MDrive 1 is 1%
JFuel is 35%
Turret 1%
SR is 16%
which leaves 40% for PP & PPFuel & Controls.
It's the lack of that 20Td Bridge which does it. MT does present a hard-bottom for starships of 100Td.

Consider that the power plant fuel listed (12 tons) is good for 28 days. If your willing to shave that down to 14 days you get 6 lovely tons to play with. Enough to add both those lubberly turrets and a staterrom fit for a brace o' gunners. So here is the corrected version to take this into account.

Dave: That fuel reduction is not unique to MT; it is the major difference between FF&S1 (5xJD) and FF&S2 (10%xJN).

Bk 2 can't do a 400 Td due to bridge.
Bk2 can't do a 200 Td due to bridge and PPFuel. "Fix" those, and you can get down a ways with Bk2 drives. Which you can use in HG designs.
