I'm running a 1st ed MGT campaign. During the character creation process the players noticed that some weapons give a magazine/battery pack limit and then note that if the weapon is attached to battledress the weapon pulls from the power of the armor. We then went through the core rulebook and Central Supply Catalog but could not find power output/duration for the battledress. I'm not about to tell my players that a laser gatling gun attached to battledress has unlimited ammo. Can anyone direct me where to find this info?
Thank you in advance.
firstly, if they are at the character creation stage, worrying about them getting Battle Dress with laser miniguns is a very long term worry. Considering that I have never played with, or played alongside anyone with, their own personal set of Battle Dress, I think it might be a nearly academic problem outside of a active duty campaign where the players are serving marines (and the enemy is also in battle dress).
realistically, Battle Dress is capable of sustaining powered flight via a plug in grav belt for several hours. the power supply would be capable of feeding a laser weapon. I don't think their is a reference saying otherwise, so by the rules, their probably right.
If you want to say no, its a Rule 0 situation (if your not familiar with Rule 0, its basically "My table, my rules.")
ok, if your not willing to give them full power for the gatling, maybe impose a limit to its efficiency while plugged in? say the suit cant push enough juice into the gun to run It at full power. You could either have it at full damage but reduced rate of fire (maybe knock 2 auto dice off it?) or at full rate of fire but less damage (say -1 per dice).
or you could just say that the PC's battle dress doesn't have a compatible power socket and cant power the Gatling gun, if you just want to flat "nope" it.
