Mongoose is just CT?

I actually see MGT as a direct descendant of CT, if your looking at editions. Look how AD&D changed from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, yes it is different but it is based very closely to the origional ideas of the game. I honestly think that MGT is what CT would be if it was written today and not in the late 70's. I know that I am gonna get flamed for that comment, but it is how I feel if someone disagrees with me that's fine I like opinions it means folks have a brain.

No, if CT were designed new right now, large portions of MGT probably would look VERY different. Point based CGen would be the standard, not the option. Combat would probably not use damage to attributes; Damage to Attributes was a T&Tism taken to a new level (T&T did damage to Con in 1975; T&T, CT, MT, T4, and TFT are the only games I know of which use it as a normative mode).

Tasks, World Generation and Character Generation would probably make use of d10s as well as D6's... because at the time CT was designed, D10's were actually d20's, bloody rare, and only just coming to popularity. (Traveller's adherence to d6-only is explicitly a function of Mongoose catering to CT/MT sensibilities.)

GDW's wargames started using d10's in the mid 80's; now, thanks to White Wolf, d10's are extremely common - only d6's are more so.

The three physical attributes take damage in The Void, which came out last week. It has a lot of Mongoose in it. And more of Chthonian Stars.

aramis, I'm working on major house rules using the MgT SRD's. What would you suggest for "hit points"?

Now I just need to come up with a good scale for Size. This sounds very familiar... :toast:
10*(10^(siz/10)) looks nice...
113
216
320
425
532
640
750
863
979
10100
11126
12158
13200
14251
15316
I'd generate it with 2d3+3, rather than 2d6...

Spoiler:
BRP uses Siz+Con for HP

Smells a bit of CoC.

Not that I'd complain, I love the CoC.

COC is one of the BRP family of games... along with RuneQuest (except Mongoose's version), ElfQuest, Stormbringer, Elric!, Worlds Beyond, and Hawkmoon.

I thought so. I haven't played Runequest since ~'82.

Thanks for the work up.

Don't forget Chaosium's Ringworld, which is a fine game to mine for Traveller ideas (especially if you like Larry Niven).

Loosely related, ringworlds and Dyson spheres have been discussed some years ago, and one of our more "mercenary" posters stole those ideas.

Nurd Boy's thread; http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=4279&highlight=ringworld,+dyson+sphere

TKalbfus' thread; http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=4278&highlight=ringworld,+dyson+sphere

There are other related threads. It's an interesting topic, and I think GT stated that there was one Dyson sphere coreward of the Imperium, but I forget which world and which species inhabited it.

It would make for an interesting write up.
