Redesigning the Gazelle...

IMTU I have toyed with the 5t barbette as being a weapon installation in addition to the 1 per 100t limit. You get an extra turret but it costs you 5t instead of the 1t a regular hardpoint would.

Since the Gazelle fields a Particle Accelerator, the 3t or 6t barbette will have to be used in the Traveller5 version. However, this qualifies as a hardpoint, so it's not a bonus weapon.
 
There is a way for a ship in LBB2 to have more than 1 turret per 100t - carry a fighter.

If you have 14 tons of spare space you can carry 1 fighter.

Perhaps the barbette is a 5 dT fighter docked to the outside with no PP or MD, just a big power chord to plug into the docking ring. ;)

I do like the idea of paying for more hardpoints by buying a "larger" hull (though it has some unanswered technical details), but I'm also one of those who preferred the TNE surface area and FC approach. When you need five tons at least per turret weapon (three to five for the can and two for gunner's quarters and/or unified FC) it adds up.

They don't need that.
A 100dton spherical ship has 1 hardpoint per ~581 m^2 whereas a 500,000 dton spherical ship has 1 hardpoint per ~34 m^2*. Ships become overgunned as their size increases.

If one doesn't use surface area for hardpoints, then one should base hardpoints on square/cube law as an estimate such that each hardpoint uses a set amount of surface area.

I use approximate surface area, myself.

*assuming I didn't totally screw up the math.
