So, you've failed your survival roll...

My general methods for involving player choice:
1) get to reroll two individual dice (with guarantee of different roll result) during CG. Can be two dice at once, or 1 die two times, or even 1 of two thrown dice twice...

2) roll skill die, THEN pick table

3) Use Brownie Points and acadamies in Basic CG.

I got it in the first ed, and there was no "medical discharge" option mentioned. Had to interpret that aspect for yourself.

I found the aging tables more objectionable than survival rolls. We interpreted them as limited to one failed roll per stat per age block (eg, 34-50 is the first block). Otherwise mortality and aging is more like the Dark Ages.

Several 3rd party add ons suggested TL based DM's to aging saves. Like, DM+1 at TL 7=8. DM+2 at 9-12, etc, bt still rolling every 4 years for each fo the three.

Unless you get injured you won't have to worry too much about your health. If you are sedentary (like so much of modern society) then you may lose strength and endurance and flexibility, but a return to active lifestyle can restore it.

Which requires a determination roll to maintain the benefits of the program.
I've found that just buying gym membership doesn't help ;)
