St. Elvis...

Flynn

SOC-14 1K
Good morning, All,

I remember a lot of traffic about five years ago on the TML regarding St. Elvis as a religion in the OTU, perhaps during Milieu Zero. Does anyone have an official reference for it?

Thanks,
Flynn

I dunno about the TML, but I found this over at the TNE BARD pages; I used it for a character right up which I think I posted somewhere in the adventures forum.

St Elvis

Thanks, plop. I'm hoping there's more to it than that, but perhaps the TML simply took the concept and ran with it. I've been using my hazy memories of what I'd read for a PBEM character, and recently felt the need to brush up on the concept.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated,
Flynn

I've also seen "St. Elvis" in a sci-fi novel somewhere. Wait, I think it might be the Phule novels where St. Elvis priests have cosmetic surgery to transform themselves to be more like Elvis.

I think that it's a real possibility given the pilgrimages people make to Graceland.

Works for me. Just looking at what I could do to add that element to Martha, but in the end, I'm probably better off not making her a "Born Again Elvisite". ;)

Enjoy Your Weekend,
Flynn

Flynn,

In Survival Margin, Strephon references St Elvis. Also, if you can find it, look for a novel by Allen Steele ( one of my favorite writers ) called " Clarke County Space ".

CCS deals with the Church of Elvis in the plot.

Flynn,

IMTU, I've had a great amount of success with the Church of Elvis. One of my more successful NPC's was a mechanic called Johnny Tyronne.

Out of uniform, he wore the white jumpsuit and always has his mutton-chops. Was a very fun NPC.

Try reading some of Alan Steele's books - "Orbital Decay" and "Clarke County, Space". The second of those deals with the "Church of Elvis" quite extensively, if I remember correctly.
Steele does a great job of portraying smart, blue-collar roughnecks in an SF setting - so both books are excellent reads, anyway.

He he... St Elvis. Believe it or not, I've never heard of this. What fun :D . Let me guess, the prophet is occassionally seen serving coffeejuice at one of TJ's outlets?

You'd never heard of St Elvis before? Wow.

I seriously considered making one of my characters in your game an Elvisite... It would have been interesting to have pulled that on a referee that hadn't run into the concept before.

In case I haven't said it yet (and looking over the thread, I haven't, much to my shame), thanks, Everybody, for your contributions.

You guys are great,
Flynn

You may want to track down an etext novel called "Elvis Saves."

I have a player in a GT campaign that is a Preselian.

Robert Asprin's Phule books, well the last 3 anyway, have Rev Jordan Ayres. He is the unit Padre who is also a devout member of the 'Church of the King'. In the latest book (No Phule Like an Old Phule), he has been told that humans stole the myth of the 'King' from the Zenobian alien race, whose High Shaman teach of 'L'Vis.
