The Powers of the Past

White Wolf #39 contained an article entitled The Powers of the Past that proceeded with the assumption that there was an ultra-secret Imperial world designation above and beyond green, amber and red zones.

Black zone worlds were interdicted by the Imperium to the point that no was even allowed to know of their existence, and any ship that misjumped into the system would probably get blasted out of existence by Imperial dreadnaughts. These worlds contained creatures, technologies, special skills or psionic powers that would be a direct threat to the Imperium, b ut, we assume, were potentially valuable enough that the emperor's fleet didn't just nuke 'em from orbit.

Think Talos-4 from the Star Trek episode "The Menagerie."

Of course, now that the Imperium is no more, and barbarians and vampire fleets are roaming here and there, many of these worlds are again open for exploration or exploitation.

This article took the spirit of TNE and ran with it. It was based on the much more science fantasy approach of TNE, and it allowed the PCs to gain "magic powers" setting them above ordinary mortals.

I really enjoyed it, and had one character who became a Chakar battle sorcerer (a kind of super soldier / martial artist).

Curious if anybody else played with or has a copy of these rules?

The red/amber/green zone designation is a public rating system used by the TAS as a service to the public. It has no connection to any official Imperial institution. Interdiction is an Imperial function, and TAS automatically slaps a red zone on interdicted worlds, but it also redzones worlds for other reasons.

Incidentally, it's kind of difficult to conceal the existence of stars and the worlds orbiting them.

All well and good. BUT IT WAS FUN!!!

In fact, though, as to concealing stars, I think it happens alll the time. There are just too many stars out there for all of them to be mapped, and, if one is designated as not having a jump route, or any reason to jump to it, that is probably enough concealment to keep 99% of starships away from it.

There are only about 9,000 star systems in the Imperium and I don't think the number in all of Charted Space manages to run into six figures.

[Shrugs] then call them worlds, moons, planets, asteroids, planetoids, rogue planets, rogue moons, or whatever. Anyway, it was fun.
