Traveller: Soundtrack

I often thought of Traveller while watching the new BSG and paying attention to the music. I think I have all the season CDs.

For Fading Suns I just pulled out my soundtrack from the EFS computer game, one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard. Might work well for Traveller during the in the Rebellion. Has a dark gothic theme to the music.

Imperial Navy Battle Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yctfXIqugXc (not the best recording, but whatever)

Fleet Jump Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNzQ8gYxkIg

Close Orbit and Aerospace Command Battle Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exg-zf2nouQ

I haven't got one I really think is best for the Imperial Marines as of yet. :(

Thanks to 'Clear Skies', the Traveller soundtrack in my head at the moment is U2's 'Elevation' and the EVE Online soundtrack by Jon Hallur :)

I'm always on the loookout for more new prog rock, I'll give that a listen as soon as time permits.

Going back to Rave and Trance, I've played trance, techno, and house during a number of games. Only trance has ever gotten negative comments.

I've been listening to most of Yes's catalogue, and old Pink Floyd ("Careful with that Laser Carbine, Eugene", "Several Species of Small Furry Vargr Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Zhodani"). Some of their works inspire me still.

We would usually play various movie soundtracks. Also, lots of Alan Parsons Project. One of our PC ships was dubbed "Rainbow Demon".

So I was listening to Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 5 again, today, while browsing some SciFi concept art, and it occurred to me that some parts of it would translate very well for this purpose.

Movement I: Tempo giusto—Adagio non troppo (Part 1)
Movement I: Tempo giusto—Adagio non troppo (Part 2)
Movement II: Allegro—Presto—Andante un poco tranquillo—Allegro (Part 1)
Movement II: Allegro—Presto—Andante un poco tranquillo—Allegro (Part 2)

It's technically in two movements, which is weird for a symphony, but at least to me, there are echoes of four movements built into these two. Total performing time for this recording is about 35:28

I'm glad to see other GMs use music in their campaigns. I've always been the only one to do this with the people I've gamed with. I use mostly movie and videogame soundtracks. Metal Gear Solid and Hitman make for good mission music. Mass Effect has some good ambient tracks and dramatic pieces, also. I've taken from 28 Days Later, Moon, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (for humor purposes), Alien, Riddick... My list goes on. For low-tech worlds, I like to use older music (30's to 50's) to play in bars.
