Traveller: Soundtrack

The first one off the compilation: Excision, Datsik - Teflon, is pretty cool. I'm pretty much an old dog as well, I found a lot of that just wandering through youtube. Though I heard of Dubstep from a nephew in Austria when I was visting Europe last spring.

Dubstep is sort of a variant of progressive trance, euro trance, and electronica. On the whole there is some real talent in the genere you don't generally hear on pop anything.

If I played Yes' Starship Trooper during a game, the game would stop while we listen. It's on during prep, but not for play. Same goes for the Relayer and Topographic Oceans albums. Olias of Sunhillow and Close to the Edge are 50/50. Big Machine would stop the game for (snide) commentary.

Try playing Magma's MËKANÏK DESTRUKTIW KOMMANDÖH during a game some time. It's especially fun when you've got polyglots trying to figure out what they're saying.

If You're going after 70/80ies synth You might have to include Dave Greenslades' Pentateuch, a concept album telling the tales of a lost distant world through a time capsule found aboard a starship adrift in the solar system:

Yet I still think the music of Alexei Zakharov, Daniel Finney or Thomas Egeskov Petersen for the X (not Xcom) series of space games (X, X2, X3 Reunion and addons, X Rebirth) is most suitable:

EVE online provides a nice selection of music as well:

I don't think Yes' affirmative, optimistic, rich soundscapes are a good fit for the dark and dirty, grim 'n' gritty CT implied cosmos. YMMV. ;) I've probably mentioned it before, but Floyd's live version of "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" is spot-on. :)

Last Sunday I went to a Hawkwind gig. It's not music I would play while refereing a session (as I'd be concentrating on the music rather than the game), but the data banks on my personal Type S have the complete collection!

(Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere in this long list of pages)
A heavy rock band made an album specially about Traveller. The album was just called "Traveller", I don't recall the band.

Music like Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream would fit well with space voyages...

How about "Encore", "Zeit" and "Stratosfear" albums (Tangerine Dream):

There's probably a lot more that I can't think of right now. :)
*EDIT* Oh, and Oxygene of course (by J.M. Jarre)
*EDIT* And "Music for Starports" (:)) by Brian Eno of course.

Tangerine Dream, especially their albums Underwater Sunlight and Le Parc.

Although numerous soundtracks come to mind. Especially Yokko Kano's work on Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.

Although my last Traveller game was such a comedy of errors that I wanted to play the theme song from Invader Zim on continuous loop.

Sooo... I guess no one plays J-Lo during their gaming sessions? Katy Perry? Lady Gaga? Britney Spears? Man, you guys are close minded :smirk:

Seriously, I always had some soundtrack going on in the background. Then our friend would usually whip out late 70 and early 80 rock guitar rifts.
