Using Traveller to play other settings

I remember, very long ago, having played a game about US commandos in WWII called Beyond Enemy Lines.

Bill Keith wrote Behind Enemy Lines for FASA. He also wrote the similar 2d6 Delta Force for Task Force Games.

They should've hired him to write Prime Directive.

Both of these are available on Drivethru. I had heard Behind Enemy Lines was Traveller-like but never saw a sample prior and the one in the product listing does not show enough to give sufficient hints. How Traveller-like are they with regards to the CT/MT/TNE rule sets or chargen?

It's been so long I've forgotten :)

McPerth's comments were pretty accurate. They're both 2d6, but...

Chargen (and of course setting) was quite different from Traveller, but I always thought that game mechanics were quite close (by then, Traveller was just Traveller, no one asked what version)..

They're similar, but not exactly compatible, at least not without a fair bit of tinkering.

For example, BEL characteristics are strength, endurance, weapon handling, and agility, all at 1d6+4 each. Stamina is (STR+END)/2. Stamina is used for "hit points." There are only around 20 skills and most of them are weapons skills. Damage is handled the same way for all weapons whether guns, knives, or explosions. There are no damage dice. Number of wounds is fixed by weapon. You roll for whether each wound is light, moderate, or severe.

DF primary stats are strength, agility, dexterity and intelligence, each at 2d6+3. Secondary stats are training, endurance, experience and reaction. They're calculated at 0.5 times a primary stat + 1d6, except for reaction. Most stats range 5-15. Stamina is (END+2D6)/2 and is used for the same purpose. DF has close to 50 skills. Many would be useful outside of combat. Damage is handled somewhat like BEL, but it's complicated by a "hit location table."

Both games are incredibly detailed. They're more like a roleplaying version of Striker than Traveller. They have rules that cover just about everything. That's probably why I couldn't get anybody to play.

I didn't see DF on Drive-Thru, but I noticed that they wanted $11.95 for BEL. Five bucks would be a lot more reasonable.

Looking at Delta Force (digging it out)...
on 2d6+3:
Strength
Agility
Dexterity
Intelligence

Training: 1d+1+(Int/2)
Endurance: 1d+1+(Str/2)
Experience: 1d+1+(Training/2)
Reactions: (Agl/2)+(Training/4)
Stamina: (2d+End)/2

So, att range is 5-15...
not very traveller-like.

Skills are point purchased from several pools, and provided by templates.

Some rolls are roll high (To Hits, Demolitions for example), others roll low (sighting)
Wound levels system.
