We Need a World-Wide TravellerCon!

My .2 Cr:

Give us a time, at least a couple of months, so that folks can adjust their scheduling. Saying there is going to be a trav event a week off is hard for folks to go to if there working.

As for locations, my thoughts are:
Dallas in the winter, Minneapolis in the Summer.

from Grand Master Liam:

If you're looking for the exact "Middle" of the USA, that would be a place known as Meridian, Oklahoma, where it is equadistant from Mexico-Canada, and from Sea to shining Sea, Mssr Rhialto..

We could do it at Conway.....

My vote'd be for Birmingham (the UK one) ... but then I'm biased and can't afford to travel at the moment.

On the plus side, there is a world class convention centre and international airport. It's also in the heart of the UK motorway network.

Have I made a case yet?

My vote would be Boston, MA, or NYC-NY. Why?

There is NO FREEKIN' WAY that I can get to Minneapolis or Dallas.

My vote is for Toronto, not because that I am a local resident but the other reason than it is an International Hub and it is cheaper than say New York City and fairly accessible by car.

Seriously, what are doing for Indy GenCon 2007. I am only going because it is the 30th anniversary of Traveller. Come on QLI, SJG, FFE and whomever else out there...spill it, make my journey worthwhile!!

Kafka, Let me mention again, I posted something on the TML and on the boards here. LKM responded said he would come but needed a hotel and transportation which I can't afford
Two people from Europe responded but said they couldn't make it across the pond.

I went so far as to ask the GenCon Indy people how to get something reserved for the convention. I don't have interest in being a moderator. I didn't ask any other Traveller 'noteables' since there didnt seem to be a 'ground swell' for such an event. I did think it would be fitting since it is the 30th Annniversary of the game. IIRC one of the earliest RPG's.

Flynn will be there for all 4 days, I believe. I will be there for Friday and Saturday. If Qstor2 goes, and you are coming, that will give us 4.

But you got enough money to do hotels in Boston and NYC?!?

Frak Jame, if you got that much money you can ship all of us to the MGM Grand in Vegas. We can all eat at Emerald's and have our own private gaming rooms

Works for me yes
, I have no issues where its to be held at Brum is a good a place as any and sort of central.
I wonder how much it costs to fly from Cambridge to Birmingham as I like to travel in style ;)

from Liam, Grand Master of the Laughing Police Men, etc, etc....

FWIW & FYI:

I'm not seeing this on the map sir. Is this towards OK City or towards Tulsa?

I don't suppose we could con the group into coming to Fayettville or Conway...

Flatterer! I'm merely another thrall of the LP, not the LP's master.

Fayetteville? Let's not upset the sales of Razorback sportswear(tm) there with our little Con shall we?

Conway--there's a thought tho..hmmm...
:D

U States:
Are there scheduled 2007 GenCon Traveller events? I can't find any details.
I think a Traveller specific con would be fantastic.
Set up some huge tournament-style tables, some scratch game tables, some R&D tables...
Who'd run large-scale fleet operations?
Lexington Kentucky is a pretty nice place...

Flynns going to be running some events there.

The full event schedule isn't going to be posted till May.

Great Idea, but...

Like lots of other things I would like to do I just could not afford to go unless there is a very positive change in my financial situation right now. Also in my work situation. Alas life just seems to get in the way. I haven't been to this web site for several months now.

There's something we can all do, we can at our own state-grass roots level run games at local Cons for starters.

Not everyone got the $1K to do Gen-Con the whole kebang (relative cost, hotel, car renatl food and fuel, and $250 mad money for the huckster bonanza room I budgeted, to say nothing of time off from work)--circa august 2003.

That's without 4 years inflation btw..

Exposure, and seeing folks play it is key here. In 2003, Flynn & I ran the only t20 games there--he had table reservations, and I went in the open-game room (forgot to mail my reservation in-my bad :( ).

T20 Lite would be a great ice-breaker..IMO.

On the GenCon forums people organize pick-ups games for Wednesday before the convention. Maybe a T20 game?

My soloution to the convention conundrum :D

In my opinion we've got to pick some place

A/ easy to reach

B/ cheap to get to

....Some place close to a mass transit nexus but NOT a popular tourist spot....Any city or town in North America (where I am right now) that fits the description??
