Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I've never tried high fantasy or hero type games, but I've run plenty of spy games and horror games using CT rules; mostly under the guise of playing Traveller but really not.
The opposite may be more true in my case; I've taken tons of material from other game systems and used them in Traveller. I've had particular success with using D&D materials for world settings and alien life and tech (plenty of threads here discuss just that).
In 1987-88 I used to modify Traveller to create a dystopic Earth (I'd never heard of Gibson, and RTalsorian hadn't created Cyberpunk yet). I stitched my favourite movies together to create the background, Escape from NY, Bladerunner, bits of Brazil, Spacehunter, and other stuff.
Spacehunter!,
that movie and Duran Durans video of Wild Boys was the main focus for my Traveller setting, the war damaged planets, Bladerunner and Aliens for the rest,
I found a fascinating freebie game about 1920s mobsters. Some really great concepts about building up a syndicate from street punk to godfather, but the chargen and combat systems left something to be desired. So I harnessed the familiar Traveller systems and had a couple of great games.
Of course, it works the other way too; those syndicate rules make a great inclusion to Traveller.
IIRC someone here created some syndicate rules for Traveller. Digging the file out and adding them in is on my to-do list - sadly, not near the top...
Cthulhu Traveller is always present. I also did a Top Secret (although more James Bond) Traveller. I have toyed with a Firefly Traveller based upon recreating some Boot Hill adventures. Similarly, I have toyed with a Twilight 2000 type game which would be a survival game.
I'm putting together what I call Traveller-1942. I would have called it Flash Gordon Traveller, but poor old Flash is getting a bit of a bad rep around here.
