What is Mega Traveller?and differences from CT.

I have had the Traveller Book since about 1984,and played only a handfull of times(most of my friends were fantasy rpg buffs)but i've always had a thing for Traveller.I am not a fan of gurps and d20 doesnt appeal to me either.(I dont really see what all these kids find so great about d20,its like the microsoft of the RPG world.)I have been interested in MegaTraveller for a while as it seems to me an extention and cleaned up version of CT.What makes it diffent than CT,also in the same respect what is the same.

Hi !

Ho, ho, "D20 the Mircosoft of the RPG world". Thats tough but maybe true

Well, first there were a pretty number of regular threads here covering a somehow similar topic.
E.g. this one (active topic) is related:
http://www.travellerrpg.com/cgi-bin/Trav/CotI/Discuss/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001824;p=1

Genrally I would differ between setting and rules, which both come along changed in MT.
Regarding the rules, MT is still a 2D system, and assimilated the DGP task system, extended character generaion rules, parts of striker (design), parts of HighGuard (starship combat), parts of scouts (system generation), parts of merchant prince (trading) and other stuff, where I dont know the "original" source.

But there are many details...I'll try to find old threads.
Meanwhile Aramis or Sigg will give a note, I guess...

regards,

TE

A short answer is that in many ways, MT is Second Edition CT. It consolidated much of what was sprad across numerous products into the three 'core' books. The introduction of the Rebellion background and the move to a unified 'one system fits all' vehicle/ship design sequence based on Striker are the most noticeably different parts of MT.

does intersteller movement still use that equation fron CT?I always liked the mathematical foundations of the rule but I found it quite confusing!(the ones in CT)could someone explain to me how it works?maybe by example.time,distance,acceleration-it sort of makes sense to me but seems a little obtuse for us not steeped in math(though i try ...really i do)it mentions briefly parsecs...but not what distance a parsec is..movement seems complex.

Hi venture !

Do You really mean interstellar movement ?
Well, this is pretty simply as there is nothing to calculate. Its just a jump, which takes its time.
Or do you mean the combination of "normal" space travel to jump point, then the jump and then the normal travel to the mainworld ?

TE

I guess explain both interplanetary travel, then intersteller travel. On page 49 of THE TRAVELLER BOOK,it describes the MKS system..meters,kilograms and seconds yet then on page 54 where it describes the formulae and shows the 2 diagrams i see no mention of MKS,or at least the formulae dont seem to indicate kilograms in it...oh well if you could just give me the simplest explanation using the simplest example...I just cant seem to grasp the concept....

it also mentions that a ships jump drive is rated 1 through 6 ...and that this the number of parsecs a ship may travell in a week....define the size of a parsec?!
