What tech level is a Plasma Pistol?

If I had to speculate, technological level seventeen.

Based solely upon B 1-3, I'd put it at 15, but all later? first useable at TL16, but not practical til 17, and soon eclipsed by the disintegrators...

I think it depends on usage and focus.

I was doing a sort of usage potential of the drill laser, and came to the conclusion that the plasma weapon system would be the logical successor.

Plasma welders are TL 7... fusion plant powered ones? considerably higher...

Fusion was my first thought.

Then I realized that any fusion weapon system just spews radioactivity.

Plasma does not.

Edition specific - most Traveller versions do not have fusion guns spewing radiation.
