Age: 41
Country: USA
Favorite version of Traveller: Gee...do I have to pick? I like T5 a lot! I like MGT, too, and Classic Traveller.

Favorite Sector: The last one my Subsector Generator spit out.
Favorite Race: I liked the space-fairing dolphins. I always play humans, though.
Favorite Ship: Corsair. I love designing my own more, but you wouldn't recognize them.
Started Playing Traveller: 1980. I found a set of used LBBs in the box in a hole-in-the-wall book store while looking for the Basic D&D set. The clerk told me that it was just like D&D and cost a lot less. My grandmother bought them for me. I was hooked within seconds of reading the, "This is Free Trader Beowulf..." on the box.

Don't give up hope. I didn't get my wife to play Traveller until age 45, now she loves it. She just couldn't sit still for RPGs before, too many "important things" to do, now she spends time each week working on character background and roleplay, etc. We play about 4-5 hours a week (she enjoys baking something for the game), then she puts another 2-3 hours or so each week into character stuff. Now that she "gets" roleplaying, she really enjoys it a lot.

Similar to with my fiancee; she loves Pathfinder/D&D, though (I will admit that I made the transition for her). She'll play Traveller but she does it more to play in my games.

My wife had a harder time getting into fantasy games. Though she's read a lot of fantasy the fantasy RPGs just felt too wide open for her to get a feel of what she should do with her character. With SF, she felt much surer of her footing and got into it immediately.

She's just had her "Aha" moment with fantasy this year and really enjoys it now, after playing RPGs for about 5 years, but still doesn't care for the complexifications of d20 (even under PFRPG). She is looking forward to getting back into Traveller after we wrap up our present PF campaign at the end of August, though I think she'd migrate her current PF character if she could. ;)

My wife loves fantasy RPGs especially D&D. However she likes Sci-Fi and loves Traveller. So I guess I'm fortunate that she'll play in either genre. Now if I could get her to run as Dm/Gm...this is another story.

Joseph :o

My wife's at the point where I think she could do the story side of reffing, but I don't think she'd ever be willing to do the numbers work.

Though with Traveller's simple mechanics it might happen someday. Pathfinder or any d20 or BRP based game...never.
