Who PLAYED IT but doesn't like it. (Classic Traveller)

In my own Commonwealth campaign, the various services actually encourage troops to take a wide variety of melee weapons training. The general notion is that this causes soldiers to be more aggressive and fearless in combat. Also, the Commonwealth Army, Marines and various Company armies are stationed in a variety of primitive environments.

Thus, taking (say) halberd is easily rationalized. In my campaign at least.

Which works well for the military - a Navy Spacehand or a Marine Trooper might be trained on a boarding ax (... well, a corsair might too). But my new rule is that any non-military character has only rifleman, pistol, laser, brawling, cudgel, and blade (knife, sword and blade) skill at level-0.

But that's me. :smirk:

I know this may come as a shock to some, but my campaigns involve a significant amount of gunfire. <raises hands> No, it's true.

Therefore, I give everyone weapon skill-0 so that some will play non-Army/Marine characters.

I pick "D". My guys like to shoot a lot and the combat engine for CT just wasn't "real" enough for them. We went to a mix of Traveller/Striker and some house rules. I shortened the combat phases to ten seconds, but try to keep time elastic and battles abstract and simplified whenever possible. Anything the PCS want to play out in detail we draw on a battlemat and use 8mm figures. It works for us. What can I say?

--------------I actually have played ct. We didn't have the internet back then, and to be honest all these computer games don't come close to real gaming, where you get together with a few friends and a few brews, cook something good and play the whole weekend.

We loved CT when it came out, and still do. I have to vote D) as we did streamline / rationalize tasks. A small and easy price, compared to the gap filling our D&D games had required.

If I run CT in the future I plan to use SUpplement Four's wonderful task rules.
