elsewhere we read that traveller's 40th anniversary is coming up. celebrations are in order, and besides the usual fireworks and champagne (or perhaps new hearing aide batteries and prune juice for many of us) may I suggest a contest to announce the best settings, characters, ships, and adventures that have been produced in the last 40 years. "the best of traveller at 40".

Honestly, I can't think of a better way to celebrate Traveller's 40th than PLAYING IT!

The best way for FFE to celebrate that is to clean up and revise/correct the JTAS disk and to have a great sale (i.e. something better than the weird, awkward 'buy four get one free' deal they've had for some time).

Hardcopy reprints would also be good. I noticed that their listings of HC books are smaller than they were a few years back.
Really, the best way to celebrate Traveller is to introduce new players to it. With a bit of encouragement I'm sure kids would have a blast playing it.

Star wars was released May 25, 1977 and I remember some vague story about Traveller being written before that and released about the same time ... so the exact date is probably close.
So it probably hit the market in the Summer of 1977 (July-August) then.
