Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
The thing to remember about the GURPS design system is that it is radically different than that of CT or any of the other Traveller game systems. Why? GURPS doesn't use a volume based "Thrust" system so much as it uses a Weight/Thrust relationship to determine its thrust stats. In addition, Missiles in GURPS do a bit more damage than their counterparts in Traveller. Last but not least, there is a distinct armor rating/damage deflection system in GURPS that is unlike that which is found in CT. That being said...
The GURPS version of the Rampart places it as being capable of 5.5 G's, takes up 10 dtons of volume, and has a heavy (Best possible) anti-detection capability regarding its stealth and emissions package. In addition, it contains 2 hull mounted lasers. Final cost: 10.8 MCr. As an added bonus? The armor rating of the Rampart is equal to roughly 70% that of an M1 Abram's tank (more or less) as far as the GURPS VEHICLES rules set goes.
I could give the other stats such as structural hit points and all that rot, but I figured you'd not be interested in the info.
Thanks Hal, any and all info is helpful and appreciated I just can't do much with GT stuff not having it.
So no need for further details, though I like that it comes close in spirit.
And that's a fair summation of some of the differences though some Traveller rules do use a weight/thrust model for at least some applications. And one could argue that the displacement versions are simplified abstractions of weight. But that's neither here or there
