D&D Bloggers talk Traveller

"1) Traveller is a crusty old game that no one plays anymore."

Really, Jeff?

(S4 looks around the forum, wide eyed, then scratches his head).

I dunno about you...but, I think plenty of people still play Traveller. Classic Traveller is one of the most popular forums on the CotI, by post count. Mongoose says that Traveller is their best selling game, ever.

And, I know my group has played its fair share of Traveller for some...almost 30 years!

That was meant to be a joke line for the benefit of my online friends who've heard that a million times about various out-of-print games. Just like the part about tricking people into think Trav is based on Firefly.

I think he meant that you're not likely to find a group of players that long to revel in each layer of grognardy detail of the CT ruleset-- Trade, UWP's, etc. It sounds like he's keeping that sort of stuff as a quirky pass-time for the referee... and then using the gamey type stuff to form a coherent background for his slightly more cinematic rpg sessions. (Much in the way that GDW intended FFW to be used, I might add.)

Actually... when I ran a few Traveller rpg sessions with grognardy (but non Traveller addict) friends, I took pretty much a similar approach-- hiding the crunchy nuances from the players and emphasizing the action and characters over everything else.

Jeff Rients... here? </Double Take>

I had to retitle my blog "Jeffro's CAR WARS Blog" because of you...! (It was "Jeff's Gaming Blog" for a while....)

I liked the "But then I´m Retro-Pretentious, and abhor anything silly in my Trav." comment. Not at all an implication in how some people play Traveller or any other RPG ;) Sometimes people take this far too seriously.

I summon a legion of cyborg K'Kree (hacked for me by my sentient Virus pal, of course) and set course for the heart of the black curtain... ;)

Sorry about that! Maybe you and my sister Jenn should hang out. She's mad that every time she goes to a site like BoardGameGeek the login 'jrients' is already taken.
