The only time I ever used miniatures with Traveller was when I ran games at GenCon, and then it was only for the space battle portion.

Otherwise, I've never used miniatures with Traveller and don't plan to.

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'use.'

My Traveller games aren't very combat heavy at all, but every PC gets a miniature (painted by me) to be used when actual position is very important. But that's not very often (Fate doesn't get that granular). The mini generally is used as a 3d character portrait. I certainly don't use them to turn an RPG game into a miniature wargame.

Given that, I do have an extensive collection of 28mm/15mm/mm figures and terrain to match (boxes of terrain for Infinity, Stargrunt, Battletech, etc) as well as spaceships and sometime I do run miniature wargames set in the Traveller universe.

So, yes, but no. But yes also.

I answered that I would like to use them. I am actually thinking about using Lego figures as being inexpensive and adaptive to various equipment set ups.

Lego Minifigs are as expensive as, if not more so, than minis, especially in 15 or 20mm.

Depends - I get Lego on clearance all the time. And Goodwill, Ebay and other places you can get them cheap. I've got several Chima sets that look like Aslan and Vargr. And several city sets full of bad guys (they are the ones with the crowbars :) )

Single packs - yes, expensive. Clearance sets / yard sales - cheap.

In recent years, I've been playing in online games so it's about describing what is going on and accepting the vagueness of our action.

In past Traveller games, my gaming friends and I have always been minis advocates to accurately illustrate what we are doing during combat and some non-combat events. A lot of it is the aesthetics with maps, props and figures.

My 15mm Traveller figures seem to have been deprioritised several times, but I have plans, great plans...

I've used ship miniatures from time to time on the mat I use for space/starship wargames, but last campaign round found it easier to use the T5 abstract system.

i'll post pictures if anyone is interested.

Clockwise:

I scrounged up all the ones I could find. There is also some on ebay who sell them every once in a while. I've got K'Kree, Droyne, Vargr, Aslan, etc. I managed to find a grav bike & rider as well.
Harder to find are ship minis of all things. I found 50 ton cutters, life boats, and scouts + free traders from Ad Astra. TNE minis are almost impossible.

As for using other lines. Star Grunt is great for soldiers. As is the old Warzone line: Imperial, Capital, Cybertronic, Corporate Cartel, etc. Prince August still sells them. http://shop.princeaugust.ie/tg9502pb-warzone-imperial-blood-berets-4-figures/
Agents of Gaming stills sell whatever stock of Babylon 5, Starship Troopers, and NinjaMagic miniatures it has.
For really good science fiction, I think Corvus Belli's Infinity are the top dogs right now.
