Experience/Character Progression

Ok, so today I picked up my copy of Mongoose Traveller for the first time in the better part of a year (so many other things having taking my interest over the last several months, some not entirely because it was something I enjoy....). I was looking through the character creation process again and a few other things in the book, all in the effort to refamiliarize myself with it. Sadly, however, I noticed that there was no clearly defined character progression/advancement section.

Am I to believe that the character progresses only through getting better skill levels? Can someone enlighten me please? Not necessarily complaining, but what with MgT lacking on a few of the details ( I imagine to keep page numbers within a specified limit...but what do I know?) throughout the book, I am left fending for myself. This, in turn, can be a riveting experience, but more often than not it can also be frustrating.

Thanks in advance,
Me

Pretty much. Since the system has no advantages/disadvantages, no need to deal with those.

Raising attributes in play was rejected at some point.

You might be able to use CT's method of advancement. I think it might be compatible with MGT.

Look at Books 1-3 for learning by experience. (You can get two skills at +1 immediately just by making the throw and using those skills as your "study" skills).

Look at Book 4 for learning from an expert. (Takes a much shorter time to be permanent than the system in Books 1-3).

I mention skills here, because they're usually the focus. But, stats can be improved upon in CT, too. It just takes a long time and a lot of dedication on the player's/character's part.

They balanced character growth with that in character generation.

There's also a few systems in MegaTraveller, such as college courses, and also, as I recall, a learning by doing with points.
