Fifth Imperium #3

Well, I have yet to read the other 3...but what a fantastic resource you have done...I like your reviews although, I don't agree with your assessment of Swycaffer (for me it is just a case of an adventure translated into book form which rarely makes good literature).

But, what I would want to see...

Perhaps,...
1. An Aliens not in Rubber Suits...as I think it is a common pitfall of newbies to see the newbies struggle with Aslan not as Samurai Cats or Klingons and looking what makes the Aliens different.

2. In Praise of Lower Tech...one thing about Traveller is its lower tech. For many people raised on Science Fiction films they think blasters & lightsabers, explain how deadily combat really can be even with simple firearms.

3. The Ancients...how not to spoil a good idea (Gar wrote about this best here or over at Mongoose but it deserves an article treatment). While, it is nice to explain all things that are wonderful with the Ancients...they tend to spoil the moment so offer alternatives for aspiring Referees.

4. To see the universe in a grain of sand...worlds are what makes Traveller unique. Most SF gloss over and say you have arrived on an Ice Planet think Hoth...and leave it at that Traveller expands the world that it becomes a macrocosm onto itself...Think Taurus or Project Steel.

5. Alternate Travellers...so many people have raided other games for inspiration...what are some of the best...

that is about all I can think of for now...

After reading the third book, which was increasingly polished, I've started to wonder if the problem is me, not the books (e.g., that they're totally not my style, in the same way as some books from the 60s that they're reminiscent of).

Some fine, fine ideas. If you're interested in writing any of those up, I'd love to publish them for you. Else, I'd love to add them to my list of possible topics, with your OK.
