History of Sci-Fi magazines

Yes I agree, well that is why I like to think of Traveller as Science Fantasy rather than hard boiled Science fact. Such an empire would be unsustainable with that long of time for communications.

Is there a website with the old Science Fiction magazine covers? Those would be fun to look at.

Sipping my morning coffee, waiting for the awful heat to hit. I guess Chicago is supposed to really get it today timeover?

You can find some of the early Astounding Covers on Project Gutenberg, along with Galaxy.

As for the heat, right now it is 88, not the German multi-purpose gun, and hopefully, will not go higher. Tomorrow, the forecast high for my area is 67. I hate the weather going up and down like that, but I will survive. (See Gloria Gaynor song on YouTube if you need some good music.)

I hadn't realized what a prolific writer Michael Ashley was until I started this book on the history of Sci-Fi magazines "The Time Machines. The Story of the Science-Fiction Pulp Magazines from the Beginning to 1950". I am only into the first chapter, it is very fascinating on the history of the conception of the magazine in the 1800s. Already I want to find his even more recent book "The Age of the Storytellers" about this era which includes even more information about "The Strand Magazine" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Strand_Magazine

Thank you :)

The Strand is the magazine that published the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. When Doyle apparently killed Sherlock off, the magazine got so many letters demanding his return that Doyle figured out a way to bring him back.

I have, from when I bought them, 1950s Galaxy, If, and Analog magazines. But I'm glad I can, and have, downloaded them. Excellents reading material.
