Mongoose Traveller SRD -- What's Missing?

I'm gearing up for a Mongoose Traveller campaign later this year. As the core rulebook is expensive, I was thinking of just directing the players to the Traveller SRD for most things.

So what's not in the Mongoose Traveller SRD?

As best I can tell, careers are missing (one sample career is included) and the classic Traveller aliens are missing.

What else would players miss if they had only the Mongoose Traveller SRD to go on?

Hi,

Just followed the link to the website & you have the Scout career & the Naval career (from the High Guard bit), you are missing Agent, Merchant, Army, Marines, Noble, Rogue & Psion. You could probably use the mercenary bit to
generate Army/Marine careers, although I haven't checked this or anything else out.

Regards

David

These are elements that are not in the Traveller SRD. These are just off the top of my head.

The Encumbrance and Lifting rules

Aliens - Examples of Aliens: These are simplified versions of actual Alien species/races which are in the original Traveller setting (The Third Imperium) but functional from a humanocentric point of view if you are not so concerned about roleplaying them properly

Characteristics - The Characteristic to DM chart is missing (what DM is a 0 STR or a 1 EDU)

Skills and Tasks - Going Faster or Slower: The actual Time Increment Chart is missing

Ah! Thanks for the replies. Weapon damage being not in the SRD is a big issue in terms of using it as a substitute for the core rules. Missing the career path rules is also a biggee.

Speaking hypothetically, seems like someone could re-write (in their own words) some of this stuff though and make a full-blown retroclone that would be fully usable as an SRD (like Pathfinder has for example -- fully usable core rules as an online SRD).

I can't think of any reason you couldn't do that (at least here in the U.S. where I'm at, where you can't copyright game rules, only the words to describe them, and of course you might be restricted from using certain terms like the trademarked term 'Traveller').

Pretty easily done. Especially since weapon damages under the T20 rules are open content... so one could borrow from there.

Oh wow. I didn't realize T20 has some (or all?) of it's content as OGL. Is there an electronic / online version of T20 perhaps? I could not find one. :oo:

The version available online is "Sci-Fi 20"... which pulls the traveller specific IP, except ship design (and ship design isn't open content).
