Signal Gk - the Fanzine re-issue

Checked my site again just in case

I have just downloaded the files again and I'm not experiencing any problems beyond download speed. Sorry!

Did you try opening the library data (it could be the file sizes causing problems on your system) which is smaller or the zip version?

I did experience some problems initially when I tried downloading the originals from 4shared which is why I moved them to my own server. Did you go to the 4shared or the www.dot-comm site?

Anyone else downloaded yet? Success or failure? Please share...

I had no problems with either, and I downloaded the original postings.

Same here.

I used the original links and downloaded the files without a second thought. No problems with file sizes, speeds, or any of it. And I'm on a wireless uplink too.

Original Scan was a 77 MB PDF, and the OCR dropped them to 25 MB!

Regards,

Ewan

Scans are usually TIFF; the normal internal format for pdf is JPG. JPG, btw, is merely compressed TIFF. That said, Acrobat won't autocompress the images unless/until you OCR.

Searchable retains that compressed JPG, and adds text underneath it.

THere is another setting that erases the images after rendering the text. When it works well, it's a thing of beauty. (when it doesn't... UGH!) That setting should render down to about 10MB or less, depending upon the graphical content.

.

Actually, I've grabbed it off both sites. It comes out the same size either way. Just the name is different. I may try to get an updated Reader from the Adobe site.

Perhaps the problem lies with my Adobe 5.0, Did you get them to open with 5.0 at all?
I use Adobe Reader 6.0 an it gives the same message.

The Adobe 5.0 I use at work would not open them at all after several trys. Took them home to my Adobe 9.0 and they both opened right up. It helped convince my so-called "boss" to let me upgrade his old box .

Since the files were created with Adobe 9.0 I imagine earlier versions may not work.

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=windows&product=10 for latest free versions.

I finally got it open with Adobe Reader 6.0.

I went to the Adobe website for an updated version, but the newest Reader 9.0 requires Windows 2000 sp4, or newer, alas, I am still using Millenium.

If only I could afford to get out of the dark ages of TL9 and into the twenty first century and TL10!

There are several freeware and inexpensive shareware PDF readers that still have ME support

Search on PDF reader WinME and you'll get plenty of hits.

Foxit Reader is pretty well respected, and maintains support back to Win98.

Does it interface with Adobe Acrobat 9.0?, Obviously Acrobat 5.0 doesn't!

I've recieved issue twelve and the library data, scan's are completed and as soon as I can access high speed internet I'll send the rest to Jae.

Fantastic job, as always. I could only wish that you and a companion writer (as I presume that RL has taken its toll) could get Dag. done for Mongoose. As I look forward to seeing more of the AzTech officially done...or am I getting ahead of myself.

Thank you

Thank you Kafka, it's nice to hear someone actually enjoyed the material.

Not sure given that Shadowrun RPG started up a Aztech themselves a couple of years later whether a published version would compremise any copyright though I think mine was published first...

I've now received a slightly reduced version of 13 and Richard has sent me the info for 12 - so far I've managed to post the extras - the two subsector library datas and a set of ship plans and I'm trying to FTP issue 12 onto my server (followed by the reduced 13 @ 15mb) when I get a chance...

Go to the same link page as before for linked versions - http://www.dot-communications.org.uk/modx/index.php?id=234

I'll post links to 12 and the slimmer 13 as soon as I can.

Issue 12 is now available with Library Data and extras...

If people like what they see, let me know and I'm hoping my two helpers may consider doing some more issues soon.
