Specialised Ships

I'm sure I'm missing something, but can't think what.
Along the fuel line, what about a refinery vessel, something intended to work with a fleet of Tankers and Fuel Shuttles by acting as a mobile high-capacity refinery.

It's not unlike something I saw on NATO duty. Individual ships drawing fuel directly from the source and processing it takes quite a while, primarily because of the queue while waiting to draw fuel. In a stellar sense, imagine that not all of a fleet would be drawing fuel at one time. Instead, most of the fleet would High Guard for those that are refueling.

But if a 'Tendron' has a Fleet Refiner, the tender could either park itself at the unrefined fuel source, and have tenders ferry refined fuel to a waiting fleet, or split the tenders, with some moving unrefined fuel to the fleet refiner from the source, and others moving refined fuel to the fleet.

Great for parking in those strategic, but undeveloped star systems! :D

</font>
I envision that the large fleet carriers will have fuel purification systems on board otherwise fleets on the move would need to either purify their own or run on unrefined fuel, which isn't a good thing. So I have the tankers having a small refining capacity, and one of the fuel shuttles I've designed has purification equipment on board as well (may as well do some use while on the long flight back from the gas giant).

Here's another one for you. Assault craft takes care of the non-starship interface craft. On the other hand, marine transports and troop transports are essentially the same thing, except that a case can be made that marines can actually operate from one of their ships (i.e. Drop troops). However, the term "transport" traditionally implies "non-tactical".

If that's the case, how about Assault Ships. I can think of two versions:

a. Larger versions would be similar to Fleet Carriers, capable of deploying assault interface craft, assault lighters, and supporting aerospace fighters and gunboats. The modern equivalent would be an Amphibious Assault Ship, like the U.S. Wasp Class, the British Albion class or the Russian Ivan Rogov,
b. Smaller (destroyer or cruiser size) versions would operate like assault landing ships, carrying assault interface craft into harms way, and controlling assault operations. Today's equivalent would be an LSD, or the Russian Ropucha class.

</font>
Ah you're talking about Assault Carriers, that carry assault craft and the marines in them. Similar in size to carriers and capable of deploying thousands of troops/marines to the target hot spot. Already written and placed in a different TA (if you have a look at the main travellerrpg.com page you'll notice TA#7 Fighting Ships, they're in there.)

Good morning,

What about Colony ships? A number of worlds in various sectors are mentioned as being recent colonies. Does the Imperial Navy provide colony ships?

Just a thought,
Flynn

Special Forces-support ships? Similar to the older ballistic missile submarines that have had their missile packs removed to allow for a minisub hanger/dock.

Planetary Assault Fire Support ships? Designed to support a Marine landing by suppressing ground fire or acting as obital artillery, able to defend itself from planetary defenses as well as space-borne threats, but not really designed to take on other space warships.

Anti-missile/fighter defense ships? Similar to modern frigates, whose primary purpose is to act as a target for all the anti-ship missiles while the aircraft carrier is pretending to be a hole in the water. They also help hunt down submarines, but that's pretty secondary, or so my Senior Chief Petty Officer of the Ship told me (FFG-1 Brooke).

Planetary Assault landing craft? Similar to the USMC's amphibious armored personnel carriers or the Black Hawk helicopter, designed to take a unit of infantry from the assault ship to the landing zone and provide some local fire support. Best design I've seen so far was the landing craft from Aliens.

I'll try to think of more.

I believe colony ships are provided by the Imperial Colonisation Office, or is it the Imperial Office of Colonisation, not the Navy.

Bombardment Cruisers. They are covered in the Fighting Ships TA.

Basically small escort ships, these type of ships are found in the Fighting Ships book, the specialised ships one is basically ships that are not involved in front line combat.

Assault craft, yes I have those.

How about boarding ships?
Small heavily armored pods made to latch on to a ships hull, punch a hole through its armor, and deliver about ten to twelve Marines.

Yup. Got them as well.

Ooooooook
Well then how about some kind of stealth fighter?....sir?

There I said sir! Are you happy now?

Good Day,
One type of ship that I do not see is one that would be capable of clearing mine fields. These ships would have to be constructed in such a way as to clear the field without detonating the mine. Also, for replenishment underway, there could be three classes of ships. the first would be a store supply ship the second would be a weapons supply ship and the third would combine the two. Happy gaming.
