Classic with many years of house rules and such. Striker for combat - although I am revisiting classic combat with my current group. Books 1-5, 8 (not Merchant Prince or Scouts). My own universe from '77 on.
I'm basically out of the 'play' loop, and doing support activities - mostly running Freelance Traveller, but I occasionally do development of my own, with the aim of writing the occasional article FOR Freelance Traveller.
Yes, I have a couple of MT/T4/GT supplements as resources, but I don't have the rule-books for them... and those "other versions" materials I did acquire have always seemed to have less applicability to my CT game than I had hoped, so I won't be getting any new ones.
I play Classic Traveller generally but have bought some Mongoose stuff, wasnt impressed and am now selling it all on Ebay. So I said CT and MGT although its going to be Classic only from now on. When I say play though, I dont play in a group - I play solo designing things etc and may get my young growing family involved at some point (I hope).
I write my own MT Proto Traveller Universe. Sounds strange I know but it does what it says on the tin. It's a Proto Traveller Universe but done with MT rules.
Classic traveller is a thread of escapism that has run through my life for over thirty years now. Those little black books have been with me since 1977. I still mildly cringe over some of the notes that date back to my early teens, I can see signs of my developing maturity (and teenage immaturity ) in character bios and adventure plots from the early eighties. When I married and had children my playing style changed ( for some years my characters stopped carrying weapons altogether) I learnt the art of compromise and negotiation. For the last six/seven years I've GM'd exclusively and yet for the past few weeks I've returned to character play. In my mid forties I have just embarked on a campaign over the Internet using gametable.... Something which has proved very enjoyable and has shown me a new slant on role play in general, I know very little about the other players, their tags, their locations around the world some ages and jobs but little else we are connected by a set of game rules over thirty years old and our characters are fast becoming friends.
Just got a dose of nostalgia and went looking at some of my earliest gaming notes: at the tender age of 13 I was trying to convince my GM that mech-1 would allow me the rig a pair of chainsaws to a motorbikes' handlebars, no zombies apparently I wanted to try to hunt long necked grazers!!
Two weeks later I was arguing against being prevented from using battledress as a firing platform for a 81mm mortar.
Mind you last night I stole a mans shoes and shot off his big toe.
