Worst Sci-Fi Games In History

Does anyone remeber a game that was advertised in Dragon magazine way back when, the advertisement was "Are you tired of Travelling But not getting anywhere?" I was wondering what the name of this game was.
Was that the one you played with clay???
I liked that one...

HEY! You better leave Blackmoor alone! There is only one setting for D&D and that is the original one! You can keep Greyhawk for AD&D, but Blackmoor was the bomb....

And it isn't a BAD game but I always liked Fairy Meat as the truly tasteless game of all time...Nothing clears out a room full of females faster...

You know, when I was writing that post I couldn't remember which... and both games are in storage! Arrgh! Ah well. I did indeed mean Riverton. And we absolutely ransacked that place....
Never ransacked it,but got several teams chewed up there.
:D

Oh gods yes,I totally agree.Liked to play(what I got to play of it.2 or 3 games)but hated writing up characters for it.

I think Nurd Boy may be referring to Steve Jackson's immortal

I like my Fantasy and my SF in different bowls, thank you very much esteemed Sir Dog.

I don't know about you, but clearing out a room full of females is rarely my objective.... rather the reverse, most times. ;)

Blackmoor wasn't that bad...It's like the Ancients in Traveller - you weren't to find out until the end...You never even had to use it if you didn't want to...
I liked the Afridhi - the best barbarians ever in D&D...So, there was a sci-fi element, if you didn't want it, you didn't have to play it - the setting was still cool...As was pointed out, there was a sci-fi adventure for AD&D too...
I never played Rifts...Nobody I knew played it either...

As for women, I tried to get them to join gaming, but only had one success myself...I've met a couple since, but the females are noticeably rare in the RPG worlds... :(
<sigh>

So, having missed National Speak Like a Pirate Day, I'm still gonna be Cap'n...

ARRRRH! Avast ye' line-weasels! Thisshere be yer Cap'n Gani! Ye gimme some games we love-ed, an ye gimme some games we 'ated. Un' ye be a fine deck-swabbing band o'un-hung ne'er-do-wells fer it, but we gonna obey's us th' Code....

Thishere natter-fest is gonna be-fer done at Post 75... nae reason tae hassle th' Web-maestro wif us'n all agree'n that there was a PILE o' kaka swagged as good, an' found tae be bad.

And I have to kick in and say that ICE is a PIG-ugly system... And let's face it, HERO has fans (though Godalmighty knows why???). And they're like us... They'll never change, so why ask...

This discussion has, thus far, been a scream... Thanks all.

'Tis naught fer the likes a ye to be dictatin'!

Mutiny, I calls this, or I be a Scurvy SpaceDog and we knows what I thinks of Vargr....

Them's as don't love me and me board-mates can suck hot photons from me pulse laser broadsides!

Arrr! 'Tis a fine converse indeed!

HERO works well for Champions. It is a fairly balanced (with a good GM) system and captures the feel of most 4-colour hero games. It can (allegedly) be used for fantasy, but I think you have to be a bit of a masochist.

My favorite Sci-Fi miniatures combat game (which I use where Striker would have sat) is Stargrunt from Ground Zero Games. (Shameless plug: Stargrunt.ca web page)

...mental block, yah, thats it exactly...I had a mental block...thoise games where COMPLETELY blacked out of my memory except for a few fleeting B&W grainy images....that's my story and I'm sticking to it !!!

its not BLACKMOOR...it's expidtion to the Barrier peaks that had the spaceship and the veggipygmis...

blackmoor had the dreaded 'temple of the frog' (from the white box edition suppliment)

I cannot believe no one has mentioned the fantastic Sci-Fi game by Gary Gygax. Cyborg Commandos. If any game deserves to get the worst label then surely this is it. It was simply dreadful.

Has anyone ever tried Excursions into the Bizzare?
The setting is here in the present. The play either an anthropormorphic alien or fantasy based character type. It's friend foe list is the best thing about the game. Foes are people that want to do harm to you and includes pretty much anyone in a unform. Friends are those who want to use you for thier own purposes and include people like movie producers. Neutrals are the only people that you might be able to trust. It includes people people who have no intrest in you and people in the SCA.
The game usually ran similar to a Paranoia session.

Hold on, I retract my prior comments. This one wins hands down. It's so bad, I'd even repressed memories of being at the Gen Con where it was being out-ed. That's a truly terrible piece of rubbish, I must say.
