It's had an interesting evolution, if you agree or disagree with the directions it took.

I've always wanted to write an Army Book based on it.

It was the first edition of WH40K. Which was Games Workshop's first major product announced right as Marc withdrew their Traveller license.

That's interesting. I always thought Warhammer40k was a fantasy "elves and orcs in space" kind of game.

I never really considered it Fantasy, but I never considered it "hard" Sci-Fi like Traveller.

I never played it, I just loved the book - as a book. Boy was it dark.

To the original question, I like the idea of a canon map (Thank you Travellermap!) but don't relish digging into details upon details and worrying that my canon won't match some dusty tome I haven't gotten to yet.

At the moment we're playing on three worlds and develop interesting bits as needed. Each one has a vastly different social culture and planetary characteristics, but all three are nominally human habitable. So some things are the same.

I do enjoy reading canon just to mine it for ideas. Most bits are taken lightly and then mangled to fit the situation and plot. For example, some of the old FASA ship plans are now the decrepit ex-slave ship "Abandonment". No real luxury there.

[August 15th, 2014, 11:57 AM] Mike Whightman; there used to be an individual on this board (Straybow?) who ran a pretty strict Traveller game, according to him at least.
Hahaha!
I'm probably the least OTU person on CotI! That's quite a mixup. I wasn't around much back in the early 20teens to annoy... er, make my opinions known. I disdain the "pretend the universe isn't 3D" map, fixed jump time, "displacement" tons, and economics that don't work. Other than that, Traveller is great! I respect it as the original space-trading RPG.

I would freely plunder OTU for certain material (you can bet there would be a Regina, etc) but rearrange it freely.

I really cannot vote because of my inexperience. But due to my time spent with Megatraveller 2 cRPG, references to Rhylanor always gives me the warm fuzzies. :)
