Service Class restrictions...

I just picked up the players guide after reading through T20 lite. I must say, I wasn't prepared to like a d20 incarnation of Traveller, but I ended up liking it. That said, I've got some questions:

First - There are restrictions on joining the Navy, Marines, Scouts, etc if you aren't from a planet that has some form of Interstellar or Spacefaring capability. How does that get interpreted for low - mid tech planets inside the Imperium? Do the Imperial Marines, Navy and Scouts draw their recruits only from High tech worlds? Do you make an exception for worlds that have a Naval or Scout base on them?

Second - How far into prior history do you carry homeworld restrictions? If a player from a low tech planet joined the Merchants for a couple of terms, would that make him eligible to join the Corsairs or become a Traveller class?

Thanks!
Ed

Glad you liked it and welcome!

Really up to the Referee but I'd allow it if they were from a world with an appropriate base. Then again I'd allow that the character decided to leave their homeworld and go to the nearest recruiting office offworld and join, but that's just me ;)

Yep. I'd let allow it after the first term.

And take special note of Hunter's sig ;)

Indeed, the defense against the pedantic "but its in the rules" crowd.

Viewing the rules as "fixed" is actually was one of the reasons I've been hesitant to go T20, as D20 seems to have a very "min-max", maximize pc power friendly atmosphere to it. Originally, I was looking at something Gurps lite based to run my next campaign, but the work to tweak to where I liked it was just too high for me. Tweaking T20 character creation will be much easier.

After reading Hunter's blog entry from last week, it seems that SciFi20 is drifting away from D20 Class/level more towards point buy. Interesting....

Thanks!

Yes and no. Yes going point buy for PC generation but the old random method will be available. Levels are still there for the purpose of aiding balancing encounters, and you can still do classes if you want.
