Signal GK

Ok, Hunter it will be kinda heavy...so if I could have you pay for the return postage that would be great...I will send them off to you, as soon as I am able.

How long do you estimate it would take you PDF the whole thing? (each magazine is digest sized and has about 60 pages of material) and there are 13 issues...

I've started scanning/OCRing - planning to correct any omissions/errors/typo's, etc., and then put it into a cleaner format. Maybe some additional artwork. Maybe.

I may well distribute it on CD altogether (with maybe some additional material), as this could be a lot easier, just for cost price. There was never any intention of making money on S-GK from the outset, only to get material out to interested people.

Essentially though I would leave the content as near as original as is possible. I still need to track some people down to get their permission as technically, the authors and artists still own the copyright to their material and there may be objections (hopefully not) to any distribution.

I will keep people posted.

Sounds good Leighton. If I can be of any help then let me know.

Drat I just remembered, there is a very embarassing letter from me in one of the issues (5 or 6 I think). Can it be excised? Hey I was a teenager at the time!!

No, no, Ben I have the print copy and it will be reproduced everywhere where Traveller can be found...Age is no excuse for violating the sacredness of the almighty canon.

Leighton, I think the idea of putting out the CD ROM is a brilliant one but what about the two Encyclopedias that I asked about earlier? (Encyclopedia Dag. and Encyclopedia Gushemege)

The Dag Encyclopaedia is being looked at again but Jae Campbell is taking charge of that for now. I will need to track down David Burden who led the work on Gush.

I'll have to run it by them, but I have no problem with the idea.

What I forgot to add to the last post is whether anyone out there new the whereabouts of the original contributors?

Duncan Law-Green, Adie Stuart, David Burden, Stuart Machin, Nick Walker, and there are others. I got a bit out of touch (to say the least) and don't know who's involved with what at the moment.

Any info would help.

Thanks

Dear All,

For all those interested in Signal-GK, I've scanned 3 issues and a supplement in but haven't OCR'ed anything yet. My plan is to complete the scanning an OCR'ing within 2 weeks, then I'll do some checking, spelling and cleaning up, etc. CAn't tell you when I will be exactly ready but I'll let you know my progress and when I'm likely to finish the task.

Feel free to comment, particularly on how you think the format the re-issue could go under.

Thanks, Leighton

Dear All,

I've scanned all the copies I have to hand from issue 2 to 12. I can't find Issue 1 or 13 (typical), but I know where I can lay my hands on one of each. Took me slightly longer than planned due to work commitments and illness (just a cold). I will start OCRing this coming week.

Leighton

Signal GK!! Wow! :D

I used to have lots of those (not sure exactly how many though!).

Leighton, I'm interested in getting the the re-releases of Signal GK if/when you're ready to release.

Leighton,

How many issues were there in total, I have 13. Also, what is the update on th cd rom...would it include both Enclopedias?

There were 13 issues in total published. The entire Dagudashaag sector was covered with an entry for every system, plus all the other ancillary references.

The 2 Encyclopaedias I assume you are refering to both Dag and Gush. I'll have to check with Jae Campbell about what he is planning to do with the Dag data, and I need to contact David Burden over the Gush material. I would be good to include both, but as I say I need to speak to them to get their plans and permission, so I can't gaurantee them at this point.

The CD-ROM would include all the issues with an introduction, explanatory notes, maybe some updated/additional artwork/diagrams and possibly some follow-up material (filling some holes).

I'll have a better idea by the end of the week over the progress of OCRing, and I may have an estimate for you all then.

Spread the word, I would like to know what sort of numbers would be interested in receiving a copy.

Leighton

Count me in! And, really try to convince Dave that Gushe has to be included. As hopefully we can get the powers that be declare your hard work official...that way giving a home for cyberpunkish Traveller!

I've just about done one issue! It's taking a while about (4 hours worth). But as I populate the OCR dictionary, things should speed things up. If only we hadn't decided on some of those fancy fonts!

Though I have never seen a paper copy, I will definitely get your cd edition.
Enough people whoe's opinions I respect have said it is good stuff - so I want one

I've never seen this magazine, since I'm on the other side of the pond, but it sounds like an interesting one. Count me in for a copy of the CD-rom version when you get it done.

That makes two of us from Texas that would like a copy. Please let me know when it might be available and what we'll have to do once it is.

Thanks in advance,
Flynn
