Kafka, it's a reference to them not being portrayed as either purely good or evil. As in white hats, black hats (or good guys only wear white, villians always wear black). Vilani in Interstellar Wars "wear grey"...and that's a good thing.

I for one could do without the Vilani disco elevator boots.

(*snap* *snap* as the powered-by-miniphants palanquin continues down the Sákbe road to Jakálla)

</font>[/QUOTE]Somehow, I did not read that part of the thread...forgive my interruption. The Vilani, I hope will never be protrayed as Evil in IW. A rapious plutocracy but never just black.

Understanding the Vilani as the proud builders of interstellar civilization where there was none before is noble cause into itself. It is often cited that the Vilani did not share technology and subgated the minor races...somehow, I remember reading somewhere that J-1 was readily aviable it is just that they kept J-2 for themselves. Therefore, surely the time around Terran first contact there must be many spillover races with pocket empires of their own...I can think of the Skyraiders being just one example.

And why did the Skyraiders flee from the Vilani?

Some of the tactics used by the Vilani to build their empire would cause a K'kree to think overkill ;)
