Indeed, sir, I do recognize that that element was there. But I think that there would not be/have been another country that would/would have, at one of their own peculiar symbolic ceremonies (as the Changing of the Guard is for your nation), play/ed our national anthem where another piece of music might normally have been appropriate.

(Especially since I have no doubt that no small number of your people would also have recognized the tune of the drinking song 'To Anacreon In Heaven'.)
