Favorite Bars & other estabhisments in YTU

It started when I ran Merc:2000 game based in Miami. My players and I came up with a combination gun store and hiring hall, with branches in Miami, Las Vegas and Singapore.

"Big Bob's House of Boom" has appeared in many of my games by now.

That is true, in some places the tip is included. Many touristy places do that.

But speaking of rude waiters, I worked at a nice restaurant here in Lexington and I couldn't believe what some of the waiters who had been there a long time could get away with. But they had their following and if you were an unknown you could get some questionable treatment. They would also stick an automatic 18% on a ticket if they thought someone wasn't going to tip them. My big recommendation is to always pay in cash, especially if you are drinking at a bar, it is really hard to get a tab changed once your credit card has been swiped.

Another thread resurrection.

Rosa's Cantina, El Paso, El Paso: Prepare to be serenaded by a long-dead Terran singer. Drinks are good, but be careful with the girls. The locals like to reenact the song with real bullets. Chili is good but toned down for visitors. Buffalo burgers are quite good.

I Hate Starmen Chili Cafe, N'Yawlins, El Paso: run by a widow who had her husband and children killed in a Space Viking attack. Was relocated by the local government from El Paso after poisoning a few space crew, none fatally. She claimed they could not handle her chili. Is more discrete now, but is still watched. Makes a mean batch of chili, but beware of the local habaneros. They are hotter than the Terran ones. Makes additional money on the side exporting her chili spice mix to New Texas.

Miss Grimes House of Joy (and Family Diner), Ficant, Spinward Marches: Booze and girls for the wandering hunters and miners. Tolerated as a necessary facility, and the family diner does turn out good food. The ground mastodon burgers are one of the specialties, along with scrambled turkey eggs (the 4 egg omelet is free if you manage to eat it), slow-roasted mastodon trunk, and White-throated goose liver (aka Canadian Geese). Blackfish steaks, sausage, and liver appear on the menu based on when they strand, and are enjoyed by the locals.

Star crewmen are greatly welcomed in the bar, and speedily relieved of all carried cash. The locals operate under the "buyer beware" ethic. The specialty drink of the house is the sweet potato brandy.

Wong's
Can be placed on any high pop world in a dense city. A non-descript establishment you might otherwise miss.
Its appeal lies in the staff being psionic and they know exactly what you want or need. This is to include planting illusions in your mind that you are in the bar, etc., place of your dreams sipping on a heavenly beverage of your choice while attended to by the perfect server...
Once you're there, you will leave penniless and never be able to find it again. That is unless you regain your wealth and are obsessed with finding it for another fleecing. If you are looking to get even for them bilking you out of everything you own, they will know it and you will find yourself in sudden scrutiny by the government, law enforcement, and a whole plethora of other people wanting to make your life miserable.
Many of their "customers" say it was worth losing every credit they had...

The Bar With No Name
A hole in the wall. A door with a light and sign above it. The name is never given. Inside it's a warm and cozy place full of the sort of people that make for a good Traveller adventure. The bartender for a small tip always knows just the person you're looking for or to hire, etc. But be careful, you might get just what you wished for...

The players ive played traveller with generally only stopped at them to blow them to pieces. Nothing needed a name.

Faust Station- IMTU TL10 is J-1 and people get past the J-2 limit around Earth by jumping to known Oort Cloud ice station coordinates. Faust Station is the most infamous of these, at a position that services both the Alpha Centauri AND Procyon to Earth runs.

The fuel is free.

BUT.

You have to stay at least 72 hours.
You have to let the passengers and crew off the boat.

Faust Station has a level of Fantasy Island type enticements that makes Las Vegas jealous and blush at the same time.

The only rules are, contracts for what happens on the Station Must Be Honored, the TC is not allowed in having got some quirky jurisdiction rule grandfathered in, and non-vendors/residents have to leave within a month.

It is a desired destination, a feared one by captain's worried about losing their crew, a snakepit of vice, a den of spies, the beginning and ending of many an underworlder, and where all your dreams can come true at nighmarish often highly personal costs.

They make back their fuel costs many many times over. And space provides a very large graveyard, assuming you didn't bargain away your remains too.
