...back-breakingly high. [/quote]Now you see why I loves me some "per parsec" haulage rates and flat-150-hour-Jumps-so-I-can-make-four-trips-per-month IMTU...

An average 1000dtons cargo @ KCr1 per parsec for an average 3 parsecs times 4 trips per 4-week month -- and once again, I resolutely assert that "per jump" is a vast Tukera conspiracy to artificially supress the Free Market and opress the non-megacorporate, non-Imperial-Family interests!!!

But that's the thing, the Tukera freighter will make its money by shipping 1000+ tons of "speculative trade" and make a lot more than 1000Cr per ton.

In the example above the freighter has a 1000t shipment of electronics parts - MCr100 base price.

With Tukera buying and selling they can expect to make MCr40-MCr150 clear profit on the trip.

Large ships can pay fro themselves, no problem, even jump 4 ones.

If you accept the speculative trade writ large model for megacorp trade...

Yep, I believe Mike is right, this works without changing the jump pricing.

KCr4 per ton shipped (i.e. KCr1 per ton per parsec) won't save Tukera. KCr80 will.

It also explains how the 1000Cr/ton freight charge and the passenger prices have become fixed - the big boys charge low prices to stifle small companies at start up.
They do have a monopoly to maintain after all ;)

Waitaminit.

Are you saying that MCr10 to MCr12 per month in gross revenue won't cover a MCr4.5 per month overhead?

:D

I mean I figure there's factor salaries, and poolboys for Maggie, not to mention logistical support for the Vemene and throwing a bone to Hortalez et Cie, but seriously, at "per parsec" I can run those big boys at a mere two jumps a month and still show a profit...

If speculation is that lucrative, I'm thinking you've just started a perpetual low-intensity tradewar against every Type A2 in the Imperium...

Tell me how an A2 can survive against the big boys without speculating itself?

Without changing the rules that is ;)

Megacorps buy and sell; many buy, manufacture, and sell. They also own the tranportation network necessary to get their goods to the best markets.

Of course they stack things against the little guy, but that's just economics...

Ah, well, yes Chad, you're right, KCr4 will pay for an MK.

Perhaps fitting the fleet of MKs within the context of a dividend-paying company was why I figured that KCr40 and up were needed.
