Shipboard Planetary Destructors

Besides using big nuke warheads, from the Missles suppliment, can anyone help me find planet destroying weapons, that I can use aboard Highguard ships? I figured someone had approached this subject before, and had some preferences or ideas.

There was a JTAS article about spinal mounts that included antimatter PAWs which could render planets.
Another article had rules for planet busting bombs.
I'll go and find them ;)

Fighters.

A 50 dton heavy fighter accelerating for a month towards the planet at 6Gs should make quite a splash.

Factor Z Meson Guns will wreak havok... they leave 240m spheres of destruction.

Especially if you equip your ship with a densiometer and a couple staff geologists, then start placing those meson gun shots along fault lines and dormant volcano sites...

You'd have a tough time physically destroying the planet, but a couple well-placed earthquakes, eruptions, and tsunamis could render large portions of it uninhabitable, and certainly make it incapable of producing much of anything to be used against you in a war.

It's chilling to think of a "mission-kill" for an entire world...

Hmm, my HG only goes up to Factor T ;)

Of course any planet worth attacking with a Meson Spinal is gonna have a Planetary Meson Screen. And THAT will almost certainly be higher than the HG book limit of 9. Not only that but the Planetary Defense system is gonna tear your ship apart with heavy guided missiles long before you get close enough to use your Meson effectively, at which point what is left of your ships are gonna also be subject to the locals massive deep meson site fire. The thing about Planetary Defense is they have magnitudes more volume for weapons and screens, as well as practically infinite power and armor. The only way to take out an advanced planets defense system is to swarm it with small fast craft and have them infiltrate and disable the defenders targeting ability by destroying the sensors. Least that's how I see it. That or the ever "popular" near-C rock.

I wonder what a spinal disintegrator can do to a planet?

Presuming of course that the world has active tectonics for the earthquake/volcanic ideas, and sufficient deep water and coastal cities for the tsunami idea. And of course in both cases you'll have to wait, hours at least for the tsunami, probably longer for the others, to have any effect.

And that too presumes the target world is so backwards that it still builds on fault lines and active volcanic areas ;) Is any world that low-tech improtant enough to destroy?

It is indeed. But if all we want is to destroy the biosphere just land an engineered plague, nice an quietly, then come back when the people are all dead. Create it so that the incubation period is tailored to spread throughout the population before it goes lethal with a quick kill and then dies itself so it's safe for you to move in. Sure there will be a percentage of survivors even with the most lethal attack but they will be few and in all probablility just ordinary folks who won't be able to offer any defense or offense.
