All-Time Favorite rpg EVER PUBLISHED?

A Companion Thread to the "all-time best rules" thread...

So, which is it? What is your favorite, all-time best, RPG you've ever played?

I'm sure there's some strong bias here towards Traveller. But, then again, I might be surprised.

For me...all-time favorite rpg?

Yeah. I gotta do it.

Traveller

Classic Traveller is my all-time favorite (eventhough I picked D6 Star Wars as my all-time favorite set of game mechanics).

A close second is...yep...D6 Star Wars.

A couple honorable mentions:

James Bond RPG

Top Secret/SI (nice, easy, set of rules)

FASA Star Trek (set during TOS)

Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes (I like old 40's type pulp adventures with this)

What about you?

Traveller would obviously be my favorite, but sheesh, there are soooo many I enjoyed. Much depended on who was running the game rather than the system itself. So do I list by games I think have great mechanics (for their time or certain aspects) or the games I played that were just fun to play in? The two are not necessarily the same ;)

Arduin, the original (just plain fun, even if it was mega-D&D)

Bunnies and Burrows. Unless you've played the original game, you won't get it

Top Secret, come on the first SPY rpg that also wasn't half bad?

Call of Cthulhu. What's not to like, and the BRP system always rocked.

Runequest, the original. BRP and an incredible setting.

Ghostbusters. Gotta love it.

Gamma World. Why would anyone play a PSH???? Where's the fun in that?

Star Rovers. A very obscure sci-fi RPG released by a miniatures company (Archive). Had some cool ideas.

Champions and Villians and Vigilantes. While Champions was far superior, V&V and Jeff Dee's artwork just had something going for them.

Tunnels and Trolls. A masterpiece of simplicity and good plain fun.

Buck Rogers. Yep the TSR one. Freaking rocked!

Probably a ton of others, but yeah I'm old school baby!

Hunter

Most fun playing as opposed to best rules in order;
Star Wars, West End games, D6 version
Justifiers
Traveller CT
Twilight 2000
AD&D
Paranoia
Rolemaster

I guess my list is kind of Sci-Fi heavy.

1. Runequest - easy to pick up percentile system but just the right amount of depth and just gets better with age. BRP does indeed rock.

2. Classic Traveller - say no more

3. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition - I dunno I just "liked" it dispite all it's flaws.

4. Rolemaster - More tables than you can shake a stick at... oh the memories!

Honorable mentions:

7th Sea
In Nomine
Megatraveller
Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes
Dogs in the Vineyard

You guys are all cheating. I know it hurts, but just pick one.

I have to say RuneQuest II (boxed set with Fangs monster stats, Basic Roleplaying booklet and Apple Lane/Rainbow Caves module.

All you would ever need, in one box. With a chainmail bikini on the cover.

1. Traveller. Obviously.

2. RQ2. Great system, great setting. And ducks.

3. Aftermath. Had some...interesting...post-apocalyptic adventures.

4. Cthulhu. Ya can't beat a good blasphemous abomination.

5. Cyberpunk. Big guns 'n' mirrorshades.

Traveller.

Then D6 Star Wars as second, but only because I've never actually played.

Shadowrun is almost tied with that.

Dude. Do not go to your grave without playing D6 Star Wars.

C'mon. It's Star Wars. You're bound to find someone who wants to play.

The 2nd Edition, Revised & Expanded rules are the best, but all three of the rules sets are pretty doggone close.

You owe it to yourself, as a role player, to experience the grace of that game.

It's just so much freakin' fun.

</font>[/QUOTE]I own a whole damn lot of those books. That ought to count for something. ;)

1. CT (well, all Traveller really)

2. RQ2 (yes, good box cover - checking - that's plate, not mail
It would have been a fatal mistake for a member of our group to play a duck!)

3. AD&D (Ever had a group who always wanted to play CE characters? Uber-munchkins!)

4. Shadowrun (largely plundered for ideas for Traveller)

I've never played Cthulu. One day, perhaps.

My vote for best all-time favourite RPG has to be ...
Vampire - The Masquerade

Honourable Mentions
1. Traveller (T20)
2. Cyberpunk 2020
3. Star Wars (WEG d6)
4. D&D3e (D20)
5. Star Wars (D20)

Wow - that's tough to pick just one.

D&D

Overall - it's THE RPG.

But so many are great: Traveller, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel Super Heroes, World of Darkness (the setting, but handfulls of dice suck).

Favorite system is d20. Although SpyCraft 2.0 looks better, just haven't played it yet - and I hear that the new Star Wars that comes out later this month is similar to SpyCraft 2.0.

I can only pick one, it wasn't the first i played but it was the first i loved.

LBB Traveller

But i must admit that there is only a hairs breadth between it and #2, which is Original D&D (must be that whole "little books" thing).

the rest are easy,

3) Call of Cthulhu
4) Star Trek (Fasa TOS)
5) Flashing Blades
6) MegaTraveller
7) AD&D 1E
8) Shadowrun 2e/3e
9) Amber Diceless
10) Top Secret

Just for reference, T4 is still in the Top 20 on my list. TNE didn't make it. T20 hasn't had a chance to make the list yet since no one around here plays/runs it - so I have never played it.

You must have the US version. It's definitely a chainmail bikini on the Games Workshop UK edition ...

After, Traveller in all different milieux, as we end up playing House Rules, anyhow...that is a tough one...

Call of the Cthulhu

And then in no particular order.
Fading Suns
Feng Shui
2300AD
AD&D 1e
James Bond RPG
Champions
Runequest
Paranoia
Star*Drive/Dark Matter
Legend of the Five Rings (ones that do not use the 3.5 rules)
Dark Conspiracy
Twilight 2000
In Nomine (version en francais)
Kult (the Swedish game, combined with WOD, very dark & scary)
Qin

...and probably a few others that have really fun at cons but never as good when you ran them from the box.
