All-Time Favorite rpg EVER PUBLISHED?

Forget picking just one. It's just not possible!

For me (not in any particular order):
Classic Traveller
Shadowrun
Call of Cthulhu
AD&D (1st Edition)

Wow surprised there are so many Runequest fans. I would pick Runequest at #1 too. Be sure to have fewer than 6 players it bogs down.
Runequest
Classic traveller
AD&D 2e
Aftermath
Stormbringer
Boot Hill

Makes me want to play some Runequest.

For me my favorite games of all time are in this order:

Dungeons and Dragons 1st and 3.5 editons
Traveller (Classic, T20, and GURPS)
Aftermath
Gama World
Twilight 2000

Right, a tough one. Thinking about it, I have more hours logged on D&D than any other game, most of that either AD&D or AD&D2. I supposed I'll settle for a three-way tie between AD&D, Traveller and GURPS.

Agreed. It was a helluva romp in the 70s. The choices were D&D in the white box, Traveller in the black box, or if we wanted something really bizarre, EPT in the colorful box!

I have had tons of fun with D&D, as well as CT and GURPS, and that is what gaming is all about!

While probably not a 'RPG' in the strictest definition, I logged a lot of fun with Car Wars (where the right-of-way goes to the biggest guns). Nothing beats the pure fun of cruising down the highway at 200+ kph and shredding other cars with your quad 50 cal machine guns.

Car Wars was a hoot. We still play every now and again.

Our main, non-RPG game/table top war game, has pretty much been Battletech for the past 20 years. But I used to do a lot of miniature gaming and board war gaming. Not too many players of either category around here any more. Well I guess there are miniature gamers around, it's just that they play Warhammer/40K, WarMachine, Axis&Allies, and the like.

I would have to say my favorite "Published" RPG is T20 Traveller. I have always loved the traveller milliuex, but never loved the rules. Traveller with D20 rules is just the bomb. The prior history and chargen though long, allows almost unlimited variability.

My favorite unpublished game was a traveller game my friend ran using a modified 1st ed Top Secret rule set. It was a blast.

You know... it's stunning. Between them, those three games cover so much ground, everything since has been footnotes and elaborations.

Brother, that is an incredible piece of writing there.

It should be a lyric in a song.

Make a hell of a good signature.

1) Traveller (MT)
2) Traveller (CT)
3) AD&D
4) Star Trek (FASA version)
5) Twilight 2000 (1st edition)
6) Paranoia
7) Droids (anyone remember that one?)

Yeah, I'm retro ...

I can't say that I was seriously into Car Wars, but I was into it once upon a time. The coolest vehicle I ever designed had only one seat, for the driver. A passenger space was devoted to holding a case of beer. It was more of an rpg design than an optimized for combat design. Kind of a... what if Mad Max had beer instead of a dog sort of thing.

But if we want to talk board games... that's another thread.

Traveller as SF with 2d6 and skills. EPT as "science fantasy" with percentile, levels and skills (as I recall, of a sort at least).

And you know what? Any time one of those three games comes out with a new edition, I run out and buy it. Well, if not buy it, at least take a very good, long, hungry look at it.

I guess that puts me in good company, being retro myself.

FASA Trek. Love that game too! Didn't play it much, but I did buy a bunch of it just because at one time I was a Star Trek junkie.

It turned me into a Star Trek junkie. (It also got me used to having to fix loads of printing errors in a product before using it ... preparing me for MT. )

I particularly liked how it took a group of players to run a ship in starship combat instead of just tacking on a one-on-one boardgame, something I've tried to bring to my Traveller games. It also gave me a taste for running campaigns where the PCs are still in service.
