T20 Starship Generator

Is anyone interested in an updated and error corrected version of the T20 Ship Spreadsheet that was once up (and may still be, I haven't checked) on the board here? The previous author (Falkayn IIRC) seems to have stopped supporting or updating it after going up to version 1.9(?).

If there is interest (more than zero people) I would like to ask if anyone would be willing to do the export macro's for this monster- I dunno how to do that and haven't yet delved into it. It was originally designed to export to RTF and HTML but both are now totally broken, and were half broken to begin with.

I always thought it was a well done sheet and have used it. Now I am wondering - what's not correct?

As for the macro's thingy - I have o idea what that sentence meant, so I don't think I could help, but I can always help playtest it!

I have some (very patchy) Gurps ship design spreadsheets created (MS Excell 2000). I'd need to do some serious work on them, but would anyone be interested in me putting them up sometime as well? (It may be a bit though; have to remove the non-canon stuff, clean the forms, etc...)

I always thought it was a well done sheet and have used it. Now I am wondering - what's not correct?

There are a few (remarkably few in my opinion) outright mistakes I have found and fixed in my copy....unfortunately I cant remember what they were, sorry. There are some assumptions made that are problematic in my opinion, and some of what I personally consider to be problematic when comparing the design process in the book to the spreadsheet. As an example, the original author combined internal hangers and bays and external mounts in a manner I find to be too restrictive for truly creative ship designing. Another is the inability to assign turrets into battery assignments. The rest I will leave as an exercise for the student......




(ok, I admit it, I'm too tired right now to dig up clear examples myself :devil:)

Almost three months to reply, not bad for this time of year for me...........

Its been sitting idle for a while now, late spring/summer/early autumn in the northwest is SCA season for me so i dont spend as much time on the 'puter. I will pull it out here soon and dust it off........
 
actually, funny you should ask- just started getting re-acquainted with T20 so I could pick it up and try to figure out what I was doing when I stopped. I'll put up an update in a couple weeks.

FYI: there are 2 macros- one to clear the sheet and one to set all TL the same. There are also several custom functions I created to try to eliminate the DATA sheet, which didn't work so well. All of which require macros enabled in order to work. The macros are in module 1 and the functions are in module 2- feel free to examine them prior to activating them.

From experience with HGS, if they don't tell you its crap its probably working and doing well. And if they don't tell you of any errors they probably haven't found any :)
 
I tried the old version to create the Hiver Trader from the CT Alien module. I'll try out your new version and see what I come up with.

I love T20 and still play it.

I recently completed an Excel class in college and tried to fix some of the problems (turrets and bays), but have not been super successful.

I am going to download your new program and try it out.

I just found a new group of people willing to play Traveller AND leave their girlfriends at home where non-gamers belong!

I will give some feedback after I try it out.

Wow, guess you have never encountered a female gamer then. Or girlfriends who are willing to watch the game and try it, even if it is just to see why their SOs enjoy it so much.

While I agree leaving distracting and disruptive people out game is great, but its just as often boyfriends as girlfriends.
